Risk disclosure

Read this before you use anything on this site. Futures trading is risky, and this site cannot make it safe.

Futures trading carries a substantial risk of loss

Futures trading is not suitable for everyone. You can lose some or all of the money in your account. You can also lose more than you deposit, and you may have to pay the difference. Do not trade unless you understand these risks.

Leverage

Futures use leverage. A small deposit, called margin, controls a much larger contract value. A small price move can cause a large gain or a large loss compared with your deposit.

The micro contracts, MES and MNQ, are smaller than ES and NQ. They are still leveraged, and they can still lose money.

Markets can move fast and can gap. Your orders may fill at worse prices than you expect, or not fill at all. A stop order does not limit your loss to the stop price.

Past results and hypothetical results

Past results are not a promise of future results. Hypothetical results are not a promise of future results either.

This site shows backtests and other simulated results. The statement below applies to all of them. It is the statement in CFTC Regulation 4.41(b)(1). We also show it next to the results themselves.

These results are based on simulated or hypothetical performance results that have certain inherent limitations. Unlike the results shown in an actual performance record, these results do not represent actual trading. Also, because these trades have not actually been executed, these results may have under-or over-compensated for the impact, if any, of certain market factors, such as lack of liquidity. Simulated or hypothetical trading programs in general are also subject to the fact that they are designed with the benefit of hindsight. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to these being shown.

In plain words: nobody traded these results. They show what a rule would have done on past prices. They are built with the benefit of hindsight. Real trading can differ, for example when there is not enough liquidity to fill an order at the price a model assumes.

The same caution applies to anything we publish about what a rule or a read did, such as The Close's result after the close. It shows what the rule or the read did. It does not show what any member's account did.

No individual advice

Everything here is education and impersonal commentary. Every member gets the same posts. Nothing on this site is a recommendation for any person's account, and nothing is tailored to your goals, money or situation.

We do not give individual advice. We do not manage or direct any account. We do not place trades. We do not reply to questions about anyone's own positions.

Bowtie Capital LLC is not registered with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) or the National Futures Association (NFA). It is not a registered commodity trading advisor, broker or investment adviser. It relies on 17 CFR 4.14(a)(9). Under that rule, a person is not required to register as a commodity trading advisor if it does not engage in any of the following activities:

  • Directing client accounts
  • Providing commodity trading advice based on, or tailored to, the commodity interest or cash market positions or other circumstances or characteristics of particular clients

The owner may hold positions

The owner of Bowtie Capital LLC may hold positions in what a post discusses. Each post says whether that is the case. Positions can change after a post goes out, and we do not promise to tell you when they do. Holding a position can create a conflict of interest. Keep that in mind when you read.

Data, timing and errors

  • Prices, levels, times and charts can be wrong or late. The data behind a chart can be delayed or contain errors. Our charts are made with TradingView.
  • Every read shows when it was posted. Prices move after a post goes out, so a read can be out of date within minutes.
  • Emails can arrive late, land in spam or not arrive at all. We aim to send the morning map before the 09:30 ET open, but we do not promise that it will arrive on time.
  • Websites and email can fail. Do not depend on this site being available when you need it.

Trade only money you can afford to lose

Trade only with money you can afford to lose. Do not use money you need for housing, bills, debts or emergencies. For advice about your own situation, talk to a licensed professional. We cannot give it.

Your decisions are yours

You alone decide whether to trade, what to trade and how much. You alone are responsible for the results. Our terms of service say more about this.
